Christian Cowan: A RUNWAY RUN-THROUGH

So often in fashion, models are used as blank canvases to portray the art that many designers release onto the runway.

With Christian Cowan, not only am I totally in awe of his incredible attention to detail, or how he manages to combine retro elegance with classic cuts and fits but something that really stood out to me was how beautiful his clothing made the model feel.

Instead of using the models as a basic coat hanger for his designs, he has somehow managed to present his clothing in a way that showcases how confident and beautiful the models feel while in his clothing.

If you were to compare a European woman from let’s say Italy or France to an American woman when it came to how they carried themselves- you kind of can’t. Why? Because European women walk with a certain confidence about them that can make any outfit or design appear desirable. They could be totally disheveled but still make whatever they are wearing seem beautiful. Christian Cowan has somehow managed to take an American woman and provide her with a European confidence through the clothing that he designs.

Not only that, but has anyone noticed that bit of 90’s supermodel nostalgia that his designs, photoshoots and runway shows give off?

Models such as Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell and many more, all possessed that special genesiqua that European women do. They commanded the attention of their clothes which made each article of clothing more attractive and desirable to the brands audience. For a good brand ambassador this is a very easy task… but for a designer to be their own best brand ambassador without the need of any big name celebrity or model if they didn’t want to market in this way, for Christian Cowan to be the one who gives the model their own veil of confidence through their clothes (which helps to shape her as she transforms from just a blank canvas or coat hanger to a strong, confident and sexy woman in her own right) surpasses any accomplishment made in modern day fashion.

Cheers to you Christian🥂 a designer who knows what shapes just work and who can distinguish that fine line between classic retro and modern day risqué.
